Officer involved shooting in Hazard

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was contacted by the Hazard Police Department requesting assistance with an incident involving an officer discharging his firearm.

Kentucky State Police officers and detectives responded to the scene, and discovered that HPD Patrolman Adam Baker was investigating a stolen credit card complaint at America’s Best Value Inn in Hazard. While obtaining information from employees at the motel, the alleged perpetrator in this investigation, Scott Martin Kadik, 39 of Viper, entered the lobby — then exited upon seeing Patrolman Baker.

Patrolman Baker went outside and spoke with Kadik. Patrolman Baker advised he requested identification from Mr. Kadik, at which time Kadik got into his vehicle and started backing up toward Patrolman Baker.
