Police respond to domestic dispute, discover meth lab

A 911 hang-up call led to an unsettling discovery Friday, January 13, in Knott County. After the initial hang-up call at approximately 2:34 p.m., a call came in to Kentucky State Police Post 13 from the residence of Tammie Bates at 39 Owens Branch Rd. in Hindman from a female advising that a male subject was trying to attack her.

Knott County Sheriff Dale Richardson and Chief Deputy Robby Slone were first to arrive and observed Bates and Ary “Bo” Patrick fighting in one of the bedrooms. Patrick suffered minor injuries in the fight. Once the two were separated KSP trooper Jody Sims observed an ether odor leading them to discover a meth lab and precursors that were involved in the making of methamphetamine inside the bedroom.

No one was injured in the meth incident. No first responders were injured in the incident. Rumors that there was an explosion is also untrue.

Hindman Fire Department responded for decontamination, according to Sims. Bates and Patrick were stripped completely naked and hosed down with light pressure. The health department…
