Four arrested as complaint leads officers to meth lab

 

Another meth lab was discovered in Knott County this week, the third in a month’s time, according to Sheriff Dale Richardson.

“We’ve heard of this problem all around us, and I wanted to believe we wouldn’t be faced with it in our county…but I could see it coming, and now here it is,” the sheriff remarked.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Knott County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of suspicious activity in the Big Branch community.

Upon arrival at 65 Nickles Farm Road, Knott County Sheriff’s Deputies Robby Slone, Cody Slone and Mike Caudill observed a red Ford Mustang parked beside a residence; there were three people inside the car, and another person kneeling beside it. Officers observed a cloud of smoke inside the car and coming out the windows which omitted a strong, foul odor.

The deputies began getting the subjects out of the vehicle; one of the females broke free and ran into an unoccupied mobile home. She attempted to barricade herself inside, but deputies forcibly entered the home and retrieved her.

The smoke coming from the car was from bottles that had been shaken and were part of two “one step” meth labs, Sheriff Richardson said.

There were four people at the scene of the meth lab who were arrested and lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail. The charges are as follows:
