Matilda “Tilda” Johnson age 76 of Independence, Ky., formerly of Knott County, passed away Feb- ruary 16, 2012, at the St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital at Edgewood, Kentucky. She was born March 14, 1935, in Knott County, the daughter of the late Isaac Newton & Annetta Taylor Smith. She was the wife of the late Delmas Johnson.
She is survived by 1 daughter: Betty (Chris) White of Independence; 1 step-sister: Virginia Sturgill, Ella McDonald, Jane Ayers.; 1 step-brother: James Blount.; 4 grandchil- dren & 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sons: Jimmy Johnson, Brian Johnson, Ernie Johnson. 1 daughter: Carolyn Huff. 4 sisters: Stella Smith, Rachel Smith, Zola Howard, Martha Yesner; 3 brothers: O.C. Smith, Jesse Smith, David Smith.
Funeral services were held Monday February 20, 2012, at 12 Noon at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home Chapel in Hindman with Randy Combs & Reggie Hall officiating. Burial followed at the Green Slone Cemetery at Upper Mill Creek at Leburn under the direction of the Nelson- Frazier Funeral Home of Hindman.
