Police take down meth lab

By JORDAN THOMAS HALL

The Knott County Sheriff’s Department received two anonymous calls Thursday, February 16, notifying them of a possible meth lab in the county.

Sheriff Dale Richardson and Dean Craft of the Kentucky State Police DESI (Drug Enforcement Special Investigation) led deputies to 86 Moore Dr. in the Softshell/Mousie community. Upon arrival at approximately 5 p.m., deputies sealed off all exits onto Highway 1087.

The caller stated that a residence was “cooking” meth with the sheets over the windows, producing a very foul odor. They also advised that a female and child were inside. Richardson and Craft approached the residence in an unmarked vehicle and could quickly smell the odor.

At the residence were a male, Charles Brent Moore, 21, and a female, Cheyenne Ritchie, 18. A child was not inside but toys were scattered on the floor. Police had dealt with Moore before and labeled him as a risk to run. Police stationed themselves around the residence. Upon arrival he came out the back door running where Richardson was waiting for him. He took two steps when the sheriff yelled and he turned his head and gave up.

The female was located inside the bedroom of the residence and apprehended by deputy Bobby Jacobs…
