Knott student chosen to attend prestigious Gatton Academy

Knott County Central High School is very pleased and honored to announce that Tyler Jeffrey McIntyre, a sophomore, has been accepted into the prestigious Gatton Academy for    his junior and senior years of high school.

Tyler is the son of Jeffrey and Beth McIntyre of Emmalena, who currently serve Knott County at Scripture Memory Mountain Mission (Camp Nathanael).

Out of nearly 200 applicants, Tyler was accepted along with only 50 other students across Kentucky. He was judged in a highly competitive process which included his test  scores, academic performance, essay and interview. Tyler is the first KCCHS student to be accepted into this advanced program.

The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky is a public, residential high school for juniors and seniors who have demonstrated a desire to pursue  advanced careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields in addition to exceptional educational performance.

Newsweek magazine has recognized the Gatton Academy as a national Top 20 “Public Elite” high school, the only high school in Kentucky ever to receive this recognition. The  goal of the Gatton Academy is to prepare young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment which offers advanced educational opportunities, preparing them for  leadership roles in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Top universities seek Gatton Academy graduates and offer them their most prestigious scholarships. Additionally, the  nation’s top corporations seek Gatton Academy graduates for future employment opportunities.

At Knott Central, Tyler is a member of the KCCHS Concert and Marching Band, Academic Team and Archery Team. He works at Camp Nathanael and enjoys Hindman Student  Ministries Bible studies. He also serves at Hindman First Baptist Church as an assistant sound technician.

Remarking on his Gatton Academy acceptance, Tyler states, “I did all I could to make this become a reality, then I surrendered the seemingly impossible parts to God.”
