The University of Kentucky’s Men’s Basketball 8th NCAA national championship trophy came to eastern Kentucky last week.

Amid a statewide tour the trophy, accompanied by UK coach John Calipari and members of his coaching staff, traveled from Pikeville to Hazard Thursday. Hundreds were gathered at the Perry County Park to have their picture taken with Coach Cal and the trophy.

“This crowd says a lot about the fans and how they love their Cats,” UK assistant coach Orlando Antigua told the Times.

“It means a lot to be here. It’s a unique day.”

Added Antigua, “Coach Cal is very excited and he loves the support and he loves to get a chance to go out and let people know how much we love the support.”

UK (38-2) wrapped up an exceptional season on April 2 with a 67-59 win over Kansas in the national championship game. The victory secured their 8th NCAA trophy, second all time behind UCL A’s 11.
