Double Shooting Occurs In Knott County

     On December 25, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a call that a person was possibly shot at the Jamestown Village Trailer Park in the Talcum community of Knott County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that two male subjects went to the residence of Ricky Sweet and asked to borrow gasoline. Sweet retrieved some gas from an outside storage building when one of the individuals brandished a handgun and also demanded money. An altercation ensued between the two and gun fire was exchanged. Ricky Sweet, age 61, of Talcum, received multiple gunshots and was transported to the Hazard ARH and later transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

Aaron Pratt, age 45, of Pinetop, received a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner. Pratt has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The second man with the alleged perpetrator has not been identified at this time and the investigation is continuing by Det. Joel Abner.
