An ATV accident Friday sent a Carrie man to the hospital with a serious leg injury. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Hwy. 550 W near Carrie Loop. According to Knott County Sheriff Deputy Robby Slone, A.B. Patrick, 71, of Lick Branch was traveling eastbound toward Carrie Loop when he veered off the right side of the road. He struck a guardrail and was thrown down an embankment of nearly 25 feet, landing near the creek bank. Trans Star Ambulance Service and Ball Creek Volunteer Fire Department assisted in rescuing Patrick who had suffered a broken femur. A medical helicopter was requested for the severe leg trauma but was unable to fly due to weather.
