DUI stop leads to arrest of two on drug charges

Officers with the Knott County Sheriff’s Department seized drugs and arrested two men following a DUI traffic stop  near Hindman this week.

The stop was initiated by Deputy Leo Slone on Hwy. 550 East near Possum Trot in the Leburn community after Deputy Slone observed vehicle cross the center line numerous times.  Deputy Micheal Caudill responded to scene to assist with the stop.

The operator of the vehicle, Jeffery Ramey, 42, of Laurel Fork Rd. in Hueysville, was identified as having an arrest warrant.  Field sobriety tests also indicated that Ramey was under the influence.  Upon searching Ramey, deputies located numerous pills and a quantity of white powder identified as Methamphetamine.

Ramey was arrested and charged with operating motor vehicle under influence, possession of controlled substance first degree, illegal possession of Legend drug, too many passengers in vehicle, failure to wear seatbelts, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A passenger in the vehicle, Delmer Slone, 32, of Wiley Fork Rd. in Leburn, was also arrested on a felony indictment warrant for trafficking in a controlled substance first degree.  Both parties were transported to and lodged in the Ky. River Regional Jail in Hazard.
