Two arrested for 2013 murder

(Hazard, Ky.) – An armed robbery investigation in Hazard Monday morning resulted in the arrest of two Perry County men for the 2013 murders of a mother and daughter.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard were assisting officers with Hazard Police Department in attempting to locate Ronnie M. Everage, who was a suspect in the armed robbery of business in Hazard.  During the search for Ronnie Everage, information was obtained that he had been involved in a January 2013 murder and house fire incident in the Scuddy community of Perry County.

The search and investigation led officers to Ronnie M. Everage, age 30 of Hazard, and later to 32 year old Matthew S. Minks of Happy, Ky.  Detective Randy Combs with KSP Post 13 charged Matthew Minks with two counts of Murder, and Ronnie Everage with two counts of Complicity to Commit Murder.  Both were lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail.

On January 13, 2013, the bodies of Sandra K. Melton and her daughter Suzy Melton were discovered in the debris of a house fire at their residence in Scuddy.  Both deaths were later ruled as homicides.  Det. Combs is continuing this investigation.
