Hazard man charged in Hyden bank robbery

An arrest has been made in connection to a bank robbery in Hyden in May. Kentucky State Police Post 13 Detective Eric Caldwell obtained and served an arrest warrant on Robert D. Terry, age 51, of Hazard, on Monday, June 25. Terry was charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. These charges stem from an incident on May 21, 2018 ,in which the Hyden Citizens Bank in the Hurts Creek Shopping Center was robbed.

On June 22, Robert Terry was arrested by Manchester Police Department after the 1st National Bank in Manchester was robbed. Information gathered during that investigation led to Terry being charged with the robbery in Leslie County. Robert Terry remains in the Clay County Detention Center, where he awaits court proceedings in Leslie County. Det. Eric Caldwell with KSP Post 13 continues to lead this investigation.

The robbery

KSP Post 13 received a call from Hyden Citizens Bank shortly before 1 p.m. on May 21 advising that a branch bank had been robbed. Troopers and Detectives from Post 13 responded to the Hyden Citizens Bank location. Upon arrival at the scene, investigators determined that an unidentified man walked into the bank and presented a note to a teller demanding money. The teller complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. The man exited the bank and was last seen walking across the parking lot of the shopping center. Troopers were unable to locate the suspect in the area.
