Knott native captures patriotic spirit in motorcycle masterpiece

By SHARON K. HALL

Following a long-time dream, Keith Gayheart of Vicco (a Hindman native) built a custom motorcycle suited to his plans. The nearly three-year project in its final form is patriotically themed with detailed American Revolution artwork. He designed his bike with a set up to give it a low stretched look that adds to its beauty. The custom motorcycle builder is gearing up to enter his bike in the Easyriders Rodeo in Knoxville February 4.

Keith’s bike won first place in a bike show in Panama City, Florida, last October. He and his wife Sherry (who won third place) entered their bikes into the Thunderbeach Motorcycle Rally Bike Show in the manufactured custom class. Members of the International Master Bike Builders Association judged the show. IMBBA is made up of trained international motorcycle show judges. The Thunderbeach show had an estimated count of 30,000 bike entries and 50,000 riders. Total prizes given out at the show were $15,000.

This wasn’t the first time the Gayhearts had been to the Thunderbeach Rally. “At the 2008 rally,” Keith explained, “Sherry traded her Harley to a 2007 Saxon, a custom bike made in Arizona with a 260mm rear tire. This encouraged me to build my own custom motorcycle. I had wanted to build a bike my whole adult life. Since I loved the way her bike was laid out, I designed my bike with a similar set up.”
