Roger Gene Nelson, age 62 of Dwale, passed away February 17,2012,St.Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington,W.V. He was born November 2, 1949, in Prestonsburg. He was the owner of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, retired Coroner and current Deputy Coroner of Floyd County, Former President of Kentucky Coroner’s Association, Pi Sigma Eta, Member of Board of Directors of Left Beaver Rescue Squad, Member of Odd Fellows, NRA, Kentucky Peace Officers Association, Kentucky Colonel, and the son of the late John & Josephine Shepherd Nelson. He was the husband of Sandra DeRossett Nelson.
He is survived by 2 sons: Roger Gene Nelson II of Prestonsburg & Gregory Scott Nelson of Dwale; 1 daughter: Christina Leigh Nelson (John) Goble of Martin; 5 grandchildren: Katelyn Dawn Nelson, Chandler Ryan Nelson, Abagail Grace Nelson, Maggie Leann Nelson & Jacey Leigh Goble; 1 brother: Billy Samuel (Missy) Nelson of Dwale; 2 sisters: Mary Catherine (John) Pruitt of Southgate, Michigan & Geraldine (Harry) Prince of Dwale; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Family & Friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 daughter: Melissa Gayle Nelson; 2 sisters: Barbara Ann Nelson & Avanelle Fletcher. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home at Martin with Clifford Austin, Arnold Turner, Bobby Joe Spencer, Dave Garrett & Omery C. “Chuck” Hall officiating. Burial followed at the Nel- son Family Cemetery, at Dwale under the direction of the
Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin.
